start with tree collapsed

I know that there are hot keys to collapse the tree (CTRL -), (CTRL SHIFT -), but it is just a pain that I have to do this every time I open a new tab. It seems logical that a new tab should open with the tree collapsed, not fully expanded.

I have seen this discussed a bit elsewhere, but didn't see this as an official Feature Request, so I am making it one now.

Please.

Thank you.

Yes, please!
Just add a toggle in the preferences, those are woefully underused anyway.

Been requested many times. There is a technical reason why it hasn't been done.

I am curious on the reason, is there forum thread where this is explained?

Best explanation we ever got, which isn't much.

Thanks for that link. That thread did not come up in my searching.

I'll accept that the powers that be know that this would be a great feature upgrade.

Interesting thread and discussion, though indeed does not provide any insight on the technical side, just speculations. I wonder now with the 64bit version if the issues they were facing are gone.
