Scan All Links/Mechanics Reference

Dumb question but.

When i try and rescan using Scan for new links, is there a way to have it skip the Mechanics Reference section?

It is rescaning the equipment sections...which would be great to skip

Thanks

Also hoping for some tags / flag that cause RW to skip topics from the auto scan......

Go into "Manage Names" and set "Never" as the Priority of the name you want skipped.

Hi there!

I meant that topics are excluded - for example - I have the topic "Kitchen". This location would occur multiple times in my realm. So I do not need the "old" instances of kitchen to match anymore and I would like to exclude them from autolinking. Only the latest instance of this topic.

Checked the dialog - ok that should maybe work topic by topic :) I will try it out. Thanks for the reminder. I know the dialog never thought of setting it to never :P

Just remember that if you do a "Clear Links and Re-Scan" on a topic with existing links to the "old one", they will be removed and not re-created.

For such common places, I ran into the problem before the option to set the name to "Never" was there. It is part of what the Suffix is used for. If you have 6 Topics named "Kitchen", each can have a suffix that sets them apart.

Tricks I've used:

1) Next the topics.
[Main Adventure Area Name]
__[Main Adventure Area Name] Level 1
____Kirchen (Suffix: [Main Adventure Area Name] Level 1)
__[Main Adventure Area Name] Level 2
____Kitchen [Suffix: Main Adventure Area Name] Level 2

That works for some things.

2) Also, unless if ti professional work for a publisher, don't be afraid to re-name the Location. The six Kitchen instances can become "Alice's Kitchen", "Bob's Kitchen", "Carol's Kitchen", "Ted's Kitchen", and so on (NOTE: Bonus points for getting the reference).

ALSO, after you have the links set up as you want them, you can re-name the Topic THEN, and all the links will auto-update their text.

Finally, even if you ARE doing this for a publisher, don't be afraid to ask them about changing the names. Adventures and Sourcebooks that were published in print and/or PDF did not have to take into consideration how repeating the name would mess up RealmWorls. As part of conversion, you should at least be able to discuss this difference with the publisher. While I am sure they want to remain as close as possible to the printed/PDF version, there's probably room for compromise if that's going to lead to errors (links to the wrong instance of the same name, for example), especially if the name itself was never meant to be particularly meaningful.

The thing to watch out for in re-naming is to NOT give away hints to the plot, of course.

Eve's Basement - is where all the real action happens :p

I draw the line at geezer rock references. Geezer folk music references? If I start admitting to knowing them I start sounding positively ancient. ;)

@gaffneyks If you want to skip the entire Mechanics Reference, you could go to the World Almanac and then choose "Scan All Topics in Navigation Pane for New Links" from the navigation pane tools menu at the top of the navigation pane.

This will scan just your World Almanac and skip the Mechanics Reference.

This option is actually pretty flexible. If you have a search or tag filter active, it will only scan the items currently shown in the navigation pane, and skip anything that doesn't match the search/filter.

Worked perfectly. :)
