Hello!

If I take a certain unit in Diskwars, no Allies (except one) are allowed. How do I accomplish that?

Thanks for the help!

Dieter

Just to clarify: you can select any ally you want, but you can only ever
take units from ONE ally, never mixing units from multiple allies. Is this
a correct interpretation?

Assuming this interpretation is correct, I'm going to have to ponder this
question, since I'm not sure how to solve this. Stay tuned, and I'll see if
I can come up with something.

Thanks, Rob

Not exactly. If you take one particular unit from the primary race *no*
allies are allowed!

Thanks,

Dieter

<x-flowed>OK, I've been giving this some thought, and I think I've got a solution
figured out. I'll outline it below, but it's a little bit convoluted and
not too elegant. I haven't come up with anything better, so I recommend
giving this a try. If anything isn't clear, just ask. :-)

1. Pick the first race to work with. I'm going to call it XX.
2. Create an option that is hidden and contains the attribute "type:AllyXX".
3. Designate this option as only legal for races OTHER than its native
race. This means that you'll need a bunch of "legl:race=AA" attributes -
one for every race except XX.
4. Assign this option via the "incl" link nature to all units of race XX.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each race - yeah, this is a bit tedious. :-(
6. Define global "trat" attribute to preclude the mixing of allies from
race XX with race YY. This is done by going to the Augment tab within
ABCreator and specifying the race as XX (for a global attribute). The
actual attribute should be "trat:AllyYY@0u:AllyXX@1u".
7. Repeat step 6 for every combination of races. Note that you one need
each pair of races handled once. For example, after adding the attribute in
step 6, there is no need to also specify "trat:AllyXX@0u:AllyYY@1u".
8. For the special unit that disallows ANY allies, assign that unit the
type "NoAllies".
9. Add another global attribute "trat:Ally?@0u:NoAllies@1u".

The net result of the above logic is that each unit will be assigned the
type "Ally??", where the "??" is its native race. This type will only NOT
be assigned if that unit belongs to the native army being constructed. The
"trat" attributes will generate validation errors if units from more than
one ally are mixed. Since units of the native race doe't have the type
assigned, they won't conflict with anything, allowing up to one other race
to be selected.

Steps 8 and 9 will ensure that the presence of any unit with the "NoAllies"
type precludes the inclusion of any units with a type starting with "Ally".
This means that the one attribute will catch all attempts to mix an allied
unit with the unit that can't be mixed.

Let me know if this isn't clear......

Thanks, Rob
