Weapons as containers for equipment like scopes?

I'm thinking ahead to something I'd like to do for the Dark Heresy game, and I'd like to know if this is possible.

Can I make most weapons into containers, then restrict the type and number of things that can be placed within them (max 1 scope on a gun, max 1 silencer/recoil, backpacks and other general gear can't be placed inside)? Then, items like a laser scope can add the appropriate bonus to their container, if their container is a gun, and the hero can move the 1 laser sight they own between their guns without selling it from one gun and re-purchasing it for another (which would be how it would have to work if the sights were bought like D&D magic item powers). Of course there are also permanent modifiers to weapons (ex: construction quality), and those I will handle like D&D magic item powers.

There is no way to limit the type of items that can be placed into containers. If an item is a container, it can hold any type of gear that can be held. We make the assumption that a container is the equivalent of a sack or backpack. You can put a gun, a candle, or another sack inside.

If we did allow you to restrict the items a given container can hold, then the approach you propose could be made to work. I'll put this idea on the todo list, but I'm not sure how soon it will be added.
