Is HL using the DMG create-a-monster formula for determining an NPCs CR and XP?

The CR seems quite high.

Bump.

Obviously some calculation is being made to determine the XP value of an enemy NPC. When that is one that I've created, how is Hero Lab calculating it?

Overall, the CR seems close to what I might come up with if I go through the calculations in the DMG p. 273. Still, I would like to see the formula used to calculate CR.

So far as I can tell, it's listing CR 4 steps below level. Without fail, every 16th-level NPC is CR 12, every 1st-level NPC is CR 0, and every 4th-level NPC is CR 1/2.

It would be nice if someone from LWD would explain the calculation.

It might still be working on pathfinder logic as far as NPCs with class levels. In either case, if something seems wrong, please report it to the automated system rather than leaving it to stew in a forum post we might miss.

Well, that's the thing. I don't know if anything is wrong. I'll need to run through the DMG calculations a with a number of bespoke monsters and NPCs. I'll try to do more testing on the upcoming weekend.
