This is the main information thread for the community add-ons called "Packs". Each Pack is downloaded and installed just like the official 5e SRD game from inside of Hero Lab. It just requires a one time setup to use and after that you will be auto-notified when updates are released.

Setup Instructions
Please see THIS (http://www.shadowsoftware.net/herolab/d20pfsrd/Community_Server_Setup.pdf) pdf document for detailed install instructions. After setting up the update URL restart Hero Lab and download the Pack or Packs you need/want.

What D&D 5e Community "Packs" are available?
5e Community Pack – Contains the following:

PHB Backgrounds - Replacement backgrounds missing from the SRD release
PHB Class Options - Replacement Class options missing from the SRD release
PHB Feats - Replacement feats missing from the SRD release
SCAG Things - Bladesinging options for Wizards. 4 new spells.
ROT Things - 38 spells, 3 items.
Wiki Deities - 85 deities
The (Not Really) Complete Tome of Spells - 104 new spells added, more to come
Hoard of the Dragon Queen (10 Backgrounds, 1 spell, 4 magic items)
Rise of Tiamat (1 spell, 11 items)


Limitations of the Community Packs
The caveat with the Community Pack is that portions of descriptive text are often paraphrased (and sometimes omitted) to ensure the data files are legally sound. All the mechanics are fully implemented, so everything behaves the way you expect for your character, and you can always refer to the rule-books for the official language used.

Report Issue / Request Feature
Always confirm that the issue is related to the Community Pack prior to logging a new issue. 'Things' created by the Community Pack will always have '5C' in the name. 'Things' without this flag are created by Lone Wolf or other users and should be reported through their individual processes.

To check the name of a 'thing'.
1. Develop > Enable Data File Debugging
2. Right click on the broken 'thing'.
3. Check the Copy Unique ID option. If it includes 5C it is community content. If it does not then it is official content or other user content.

We are always open to people who can contribute to the project. If you have missing source books you would like to add, flavor text to contribute or even want to assist in stamping out some of the bugs. Message me here or contact us by GitHub to assist as a Contributor. We are currently seeking replacement text for all 'things' where a <placeholder> has been used. In order to replace <placeholder> text we will need descriptions that are at least 20% different from the original source material.

FAQs for Community D&D 5e Pack:

1) How do I remove a Community Package
A: On Windows/Mac start Hero Lab and go to Tools->Manage Third Party Updates will allow you to remove a Pack or see what files where installed.

2) How to deal with your house rules and D&D 5e Community Packs?
A: You should treat the community data set files in the same way you would official Hero Lab files. This means you should NOT make changes directly to the .user files as those changes will be lost when you update to the next version. Instead you should create a new uniquely named .user file that does a Replaces Thing ID if you need to put in your own house rules over these community data sets.

3) Where and HOW do I get these new Packs?
A: See THIS (http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=55090) post for full details. But the new Packs are downloaded from inside of HL and all start with the wording "5e XXXXX Pack". Where XXXX is the name of the specific pack.

4) I am getting an error message when I start Hero Lab. How do I post the error to the forums to get help?
A: By right mouse clicking on an error message you can select "Copy". Then you can easily post the message into your post. Doing this will 100% speed up the chance of getting an answer that will actually help you.

5) How do I report an issue for one of the Community Packs or something you downloaded from d20pfsrd?
A: You can report it to the GitHub repository for this project using THIS LINK (https://github.com/Sklore/HL_DD_5e_Colab/issues/new).

6) How do a do a "Fresh/new" install of the community Packs?
A: To do a "fresh" install on Windows, Mac or iPad is to delete all the old community packages. Start Hero Lab and on Windows/Mac go to "Tools->Manage Third Party Updates" and delete all the community Packages (ie 5e Community Pack). Be sure to also delete any of the new Packs you installed also. Restart Hero Lab and download just the Pack or Packs you plan to actually use. On the iPad you can LEFT swipe across the addon's name and it will bring up the Delete button. Delete all the community ones and download/install just the Pack/Packs you need.

7) I am getting an error that is causing HL to not load any addons. What can I try?
A: One option to try is to download the Pack again. Let it overwrite the download and install again. This "some" times works and does not take long to try. If still getting an error please RIGHT click on the error window and PASTE the error message into this thread.

8) I am getting an error how can I paste it into this thread?
A: If you are getting a error window you can always RIGHT mouse click and select COPY to copy all the errors. Then you can past them into an post to help others diagnose what is wrong.

9) I get errors when opening my character that talk about sources (ie "Critical information not found in the data files: Source "Broken Chains")
A: So these files use to exist in the Community Player Pack but were removed through the development of the pack. To clean this up is pretty easy. Just open your character again and press OK through the message and go to "Portfolio->Strip Missing Sources". Save your character and you are good to go.

10) Is there an order to loading the new Packs?
A: No.

11) What are all the Placeholders?
A: While we are able to reproduce the mechanics of the missing content we are still unable to release content that is copyrighted. Therefore alot of fluffy text has been left out and replaced with a Placeholder. Eventually we would like to have new descriptions for everything to explain what the 'thing' is designed to do.
A: If anyone has the time we are interested in obtaining the text necessary to update all of the placeholders. The text would need to changed from the original sources however (min 80% diff). We will then update the placeholders in the community pack removing the need for Placeholders completely.

12) It says 'Alpha' or 'Beta' next to the option I want to use, what does that mean?
A: The Community pack is a consolidated effort by quite a few people working together for the greater good. We are however not wizards which means we add content as quickly as we can working with the few hours we have in between our real jobs. For this reason we prefer to release content as soon as its functional. There are however varied levels of functional. The tags below will help you to understand what level of functionality exists with the selections you are using.


<Just the selection name> - This is content that contains all 'options' and scripting. You will still come across <Placeholders> where paraphrased text has not yet been provided.
<Selection Name> - Beta - This is content that has had all of the 'options' input into the tool however some scripting is still outstanding.
<Selection Name> - Alpha - This is content that is currently having the 'options' entered into the tool. While you may find workable options here there will be lots of broken options and scripting will be missing.

Unearthed Arcana - Feats for Skills added.
Unearthed Arcana - That Old Black Magic added. The tiefling race in this source has both abyssal and infernal subraces. The demon conjuration spells were added for you evil sorcerers and wizards.

ENHANCEMENTS & CHANGES

Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (SCAG) - Barbarian totems have had their placeholder text replaced and scripts should be working properly now. Players desiring Tree Ghost must select Tree Ghost as their Totem Spirit (1st Totem Warrior Ability) in order for the spell 'Speak with Plants' to replace the 'Speak with Animals' ritual from Spirit Seeker.
Unearthed Arcana - The Ranger, Revised - The Ranger (2016) variant class' Fighting Styles were stacking with Fighting Styles earned from other classes or features, this has been fixed. The _'broken'_ fighting styles will show up with ' - Depreciated' added to the end of their names. The Depreciated fighting styles have been removed from the choices presented when Fighting Style is selected again, so only Fighting Styles that haven't been earned via another class or feat will show up on the selection dialog.
Unearthed Arcana - Gothic Heroes - The revenant race is depreciated. Dragonborn characters gain a Revenant draconic ancestry, which prompts for the original draconic ancestry and modifies the breath weapon appropriately. Many races with subrace options gain an appropriate Revenant subrace option. Finally, Humans and many other PC races were granted a Revenant variant racial trait. Select the '5e Unearthed Arcana - Gothic Heroes' source in Configure Hero (Ctrl-K) to explore the revised options.

BUGS

Fixed where Aztec Pantheon was hijacking goblinoid gods. Forced goblinoid gods into the Goblin Pantheon as default.
En5ider 65 - Priests Elemental Power - fixed Fiery Soul for Flames domain.
Unearthed Arcana - Lore Mastery school fixed where it would double proficiency on all 4 skill mentioned rather than any you were proficient in.
Unearthed Arcana - Gothic Heroes - Inquisitive was showing up as selection even when source was was not selected. This is fixed.
Homebrew - Softpaw tool proficiency selection now shows up on Race tab correctly.
Homebrew - Psionics Handbook - Lurk was showing even when the source was not showing, this is corrected.

IMPORTANT: Please note that support was removed for Midgard Heroes by Kobold Press and Fifth Edition Feats from Total Party Kill Games in this release. Any characters created with this content will continue to function however no new characters will be able to be created using this content.

The download packs are not showing up on the updates page after setting up the url you have listed above on my PC. But it worked fine I believe on my iPad.

The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

The following errors occurred:

File: non-srdstuff.user (line 10) - Thing - Invalid unique id 'bckWIL?' for attribute 'id'

Getting this from a clean 5e install with community pack applied.

EDIT: Well that was certainly odd. I deleted all of the 5e files, re-downloaded, and then added the community files again, and it worked fine the second time around.

You are not using a clean install by the looks of it. This is evident by the file name and naming convention of the thing that is reporting the error. Everything we have created will have a 5C in the thing name.

Check your 5e folder for a file names non-srdstuff.user and move it or rename it. Then try load the pack again.

If you only see Acolyte then you didn't load the Community Pack correctly. I see all PH Backgrounds.

However, there is an error on the background page.
If you select Outlander, or any other one with an Origin, if you select your Personality Traits, and your Ideal, Bond and Flaw in that order, Origin falls off the bottom of the page and you can't add it, until you delete some of the other background things,so it frees up space. Using 1366x768 resolution.

Where on my PC do these files actually go when I go into the Hero Lab folder in my C:/Program (x86)/Hero Lab I cannot find anything that says 5th edition what am I missing?

On further checking this is doing the same on my iPad as well on both I performed a cut and paste on the URL posted earlier in this thread, and it indicates that everything is downloaded. I just cannot find the actual files on my PC and I am not even going to try on my iPad. For further info I am running windows 10. I am so confused at this point, as to where to actually look.

EDIT: I got it to work good on my iPad but is there a way to set the new stuff to appear on already created characters on the PC?

To make sure it loaded go to "Tools->Manage Third Party Updates". If installed and you restarted you most likely didn't turn on the new Source Options.

Open HL 5e game up and on the "Configure Your Hero" window make sure that you have checked marked "5e Players Handbook".

Issues with the UI are for LW to work on not the community. Please report this as a BUG (http://www.wolflair.com/support/report-5th-edition-bug/?project=5e) to LW. :)

That is very cool that someone converted the old Priest’s and Wizard’s Spell Compendiums. I was just thinking of putting mine on ebay, but maybe I can still get some use out of them!

Even though the subrace section no longer appears, I'm still getting a validation error that I need to select a subrace. This is with a character created before the update. Other than this validation error, everything is as I want it. Can I ignore a validation error and make it go away?

I can fix that next release. It's because the old Human Variant is still actually there just marked as Obsolete which is triggering the validation error.

You can ignore it or...

Open the Editor > Open COM_5ePack_PHB - Races.user > Delete the following:
Races > Subrace > Obsolete - Human Variant - Obsolete
Save the changes and restart Hero Labs.

I'll get this fixed next release.

Yeah... Didn't have time to update that document to 5e yet. Its on the to-do list. :)

When you get an error message you can RIGHT click on the window and copy the full error message and then paste it here. That will let us debug better.

As your have access to BETA software that you pulled down from GitHub you will/can run into this issue. You pulled down a file that has sense been renamed "COM_5ePack_DMG-Races.user".

My advice would be to go into your data\herolab\5e folder and delete "COM_5ePack_DMG - All.user" (old file name). You should be good.

If not good go into that folder again and delete ALL files that start with COM_*.*. Then re-download and install the v1.2 Community Pack.

Try delete / move all the *.user files from: C:\ProgramData\Hero Lab\data\5e and reload the Community Pack.

I had the same error but you and I are both working with different files to everyone else. I think this was due to a file-name change on the DMG stuff during the creation stage.

Once you do that it works fine.

While I am currently staying with my own implementation of the 5e Datafiles (they are more complete than the offical ones, I cannot change the character sheet with the official one which is a "must have" for me personally, and it would be a lot of work to convert all my houserule-stuff) there is SOME stuff I might be able to contribute:

- I have must of the stuff from the "Primeval Thule" campaign setting implemented. Assuming the authors do not mind (I could ask them) I could share this and it could be converted to the format of the official datafiles?
- I have most of the "Arcana" articles new stuff converted (though I guess this again is not covered by the SRD, so a "no go"???)

Adding source I assume you mean you added the URL. Did you download and install the pack after doing that?

The first post HERE (http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=224538&postcount=1) in this thread has a PDF with a detailed install guide. Did you do all those steps? Do you see the pack installed when you go to "Tools->Manage Third Party Updates"?

You can't copyright the mechanics so only part that can't be shared is the "fluff" descriptions.

The bigger issue is unless you based your authoring kit logic off of Pathfinder all the base components are going to be different. Tags, fields, everything will be different. Trying to convert from your game system to 5e would be most likely more work than starting from scratch.

Even in systems like Pathfinder that came from d20 you can't just move a d20 .user file to Pathfinder or a Pathfinder to d20.

So comes down to how close is your game system to Pathfinder?

First of all thanks for the fantastic work with this community pack. Unfortunately I seem to be having some issues with choosing my background. I downloaded and installed according to your PDF instructions in the 1st post. However, no matter what character race/class combo I make, I still only have the option to choose Acolyte in the background section.

You can't copyright the mechanics so only part that can't be shared is the "fluff" descriptions.

The bigger issue is unless you based your authoring kit logic off of Pathfinder all the base components are going to be different. Tags, fields, everything will be different. Trying to convert from your game system to 5e would be most likely more work than starting from scratch.

Even in systems like Pathfinder that came from d20 you can't just move a d20 .user file to Pathfinder or a Pathfinder to d20.

So comes down to how close is your game system to Pathfinder?

As the pathfinder dataset does not include
Full datfiles I went with Authoring kit
Instead, I wanted full control of what I can
Do wirh the code (and for some features
as the charsheet I needed that).

Well, assuming the Thule people do not
Object to full text at least there you could
Profit all else I fear the implementation will
Be often very different.

Adding source I assume you mean you added the URL. Did you download and install the pack after doing that?

The first post HERE (http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=224538&postcount=1) in this thread has a PDF with a detailed install guide. Did you do all those steps? Do you see the pack installed when you go to "Tools->Manage Third Party Updates"?

Because the document that use to be pointed to referenced only Pathfinder and a Pathfinder update URL. I have sense changed it to reference d20, Pathfinder, and 5e now.

I was sorry that the document was "out" of date and causing some confusion... :)

To be fair that list of "downloads" keep growing especially if you have the Pathfinder URL installed also.

This is an area I am "hoping" to have a "search" feature where a person could type in 5e and see just the 5e downloads. ;)

Open your character and press "CTRL-K" in the "Configure Your Hero" window check mark at least the "5e Players Handbook". Feel free to turn on other sources if you want. Once check marked your existing character will be able to see the new Things. :)

I have been making so much good use of this so far. One question I have is do you happen to plan on adding the Death divine domain for cleric characters along with the spells it offers from the DM guide? I GM ruled my brother to play with that domain and was sad to see it not in the list Divine Domains.

No big deal if not but that would certainly be amazing!

I posted a suggestion on the GIT site for materials from the DMG. I'd requested Eldarin, Aasimar, and Death domain. So far we ahve recieved Eldarin and Aasimar. :)

I created the Death domain for my own use. I'll have to take another look at what I created and see if I used too many fast kludges. :)

ATM were are busy trying to add the 105 missing monsters which is time consuming to say the least ;)

This applies for anything you want added guys. If you have done it already and think it belongs in the community pack send it to me and we can update it for everyone.

That would be fantastic. He has the book but always forgets what Ray of Enfeeblement does since it isn't in the spell list of Hero Lab. You guys are amazing, keep up the fantastic work for the community!

I'd be more excited to get the Swashbuckler in there.. and to find a way that I can put the missing text... I get that you have placeholders so as to avoid WotC issues, but I'd like to find a way to put in all that text because it's annoying to have to look it all up in books.

I would recommend reading the Glossary of Terms (http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=68419&postcount=1) for the Editor. Then check out FAQ#2 (http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=69392&postcount=4) for all the places to learn about the editor including YouTube videos.

The first YouTube video HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfExyfjlzNc) would be very good as it shows how to open the editor do some basic editing.

In my world, Unarmed Strike is a finesse weapon (you cna use STR or DEX with it.)

What do I need to edit to make that chnage? Can I do it in the Tools->editor or do I need to edit raw xml?

I have some questions/issues about:

-Jack of All Trades(player's Handbook 54). Should it not, in most cases, add that bonus to Initiative?

-Additional Magical Secrets(Player's Handbook 55). This should not count against the number of bard spells known by the Bard.

As Mergon says. If that fails then we need "more" information. What part are you stuck on? Did you get the download onto the iPad? Did you get the URL entered? Are you in 5e and not Pathfinder? Are you getting any errors....

Daplunk, for the Duel Wielder feat, your script appears to be assigning the wrong version of the tag. Helper.TwoWpLight is meant to be assigned to weapons to exempt them from the "off hand weapon must be light" rule. Since you want to exempt all such weapons, you are correctly working in the hero context, but in that case, you need to assign Hero.TwoWpLight.

I am not certain, but I think duergar has been added to the 5e Community pack, but just not released yet. I think it will be in the 1.3 release, but I may be confusing it with a different subrace.

Like I said, working on it atm. Not sure if I got the bugs out of Arcane Mastery for the Arcane Mastery feature.

I know i was having issues with it and got side tracked by a different issue. Can't remember if I got back to it. :)

Buildign a 17th level character to test it atm.

I was right, I hadn't finished the Arcane Mastery feature. I'm up to the point where I can select the appropriate spells and they are added to the cleric's spell selection, but when you add them, they are not begin added for free.

Up to now the scripts were working fine, but they were for lower level spells, not 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th . . .

Anyone know if the Helper.Free tag can be used on spells over 5th level? The Eval Rules script I'm using works fine up to 5th level spells, then it seems to not work.

Resolved my issue by simply adding 4 extra spell memorization slots to cover the 4 extra spells . . .

This is the way it is handled for Bardic Secrets class feature.

I've done it. It's in the github link above. Download and copy the files into your 5e folder. If you don't know what I'm talking about your better off waiting for us to release the next update which will likely follow shortly after the next official HL update.

Firstly, thanks so much for doing this work for the community! I do not mean to sound impatient, but I have a question/request. Has anyone done the elemental evil races yet? Updated many background descriptions and Spells text. Still need to work on the table information but this is a good start.
Script fixes for some Sword Coast Adventures Guide Classes, Arcane domain, and Arcane Banishment.

Bug Fixes

Duel Wielder feat will no longer display an error message when wielding two one-handed weapons (ie two rapiers).
Weapon Master feat is fixed to not have the 2 bootstrapped helper feats count against a characters total feats taken.
Elemental Adept feat - Will let you choose elemental types again.

If you pulled the update for the Book of Lost Spells, there were some text formatting and taq cleanup on the A-G spells.

Also, nice to see that the En5ider articles showed up today. Yes they have no scripting as I am not really that good at scripting.

Hello all! I just purchased Hero Lab a couple of days ago and promptly downloaded the community pack. Fantastic job on getting this out and helping fill in the missing pieces.

I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with :) I created a Wood Elf Ranger with the Beastmaster Archetype (he just hit level 3) but I can't seem to figure out how to get the Ranger's companion? I've looked under the Ranger tab and then all the other tabs but don't see a way to add a companion, though it is listed under his special abilities.

I also have a Tiefling monk who is using the Feral and Winged variant options from SCAG but am unsure how to properly include those changes. Though I have seen the Editor's documentation and the video, I haven't seen anything specifically discussing variants. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated :)

Again, thank you to all who have worked on this fantastic community pack, it played a large part in my purchase decision!

I'd actually be interested in learning the skills to help. My background is in graphic and web design, but I've always had an interest in how things work behind the scenes. Hopefully I can be of some use :)

Not sure as I don't have my books in front of me (they're getting here tomorrow) but I think there is a glitch in the Noble Knight. Anytime I try to click on a FEATURE (see image) it sends up an error.

Hi,

I'm one of those working on the 5e hero lab community pack. Though, I am not in any way speaking for the others helping with the community pack, this is just my uninformed self offering (perhaps blindingly obvious) unsolicited advice with no legal standing whatsoever. :)

Anyway, in case you're thinking of using the community pack stuff on the 5esrd pages, do note that you should probably talk to one of Daplunk, Sklore or ShadowChemosh first, but hopefully one of them will notice this conversation.

You'll probably also want to vet the files before using anything from them. I'm sure there are places where our paraphrasing is insufficient, we've probably used a few terms we shouldn't, and there are still a lot of things with the description 'Placeholder'. (If it's just for your private use, of course, that's not likely to matter.)

The file quality will get better over time, especially if more people help - kind of like 5esrd.com :)

They'll be replaced as people find the time to write up text for the item in question (note that in many cases the original text cannot be used. For instance, if it's not in the srd (or for third party publishers if it's not declared Open Content) we can't use it, and must therefore paraphrase the text). I.e. no guarantees on when, but the commonly used stuff will probably be done within a reasonably low number of versions.

You certainly can fill them in yourself, but they will be overwritten by the next update. The easiest way to get around that is of course to get your (paraphrased) text included in the Community Pack. Probably easiest to do by creating an issue here:

and add a file with your suggested replacements for Placeholder. Kind of like Gwaithador did here:

(Of course, if you happen to be comfortable with github, sending pull requests and/or patches to the .user files works too.)

Yes please do this as this can get into a sticky situation with the fact that some of these Wikies are setup to "make" money. Meaning taking others work and making "money" is to me not acceptable.

I have run into this before with the Pathfinder material where 3PP companies have taken the community work incorporated into "paid" products and made money from it. Once things move out of "free" gaming groups things get sticky and I admit I get protective of the free time/effort my editors put into the Packs. This includes my own money paying for a IP/Copyright lawyer before....

Can someone point me to a detailed tutorial on how to add beasts, or monsters to hero lab. I would like to help contribute to this project, but am unable to find a walk through that does not leave a ton of stuff up to interpretation, or assuming prior knowledge of hero lab editing.

Tutorials can be found through the help menu in the editor. Your not making monsters though. Your making a race so perhaps check out that tutorial. Most of us have learnt how to do this via making a new (copy) in the editor of an already existing thing. You simply look at the thing and figure out how it was done and then copy the method over to your new 'thing'. There's pretty much another thing that has done everything somewhere in the data.

Beasts are in the SRD, I suppose Lone Wolf will add them soon.
Best is to look how race (monsters) are done by doing copy of existing one and look at them, after following all the tutorials.

I posted the last of the PHB replacement text in GitHub. Hopefully, with the next update, all the classes in the PHB will now have appropriate text instead of "placeholder" which should make the printed sheets look cool and give us all a sense of completeness. :)

I think alot of people will enjoy the next release. I used the early build in a game yesterday and was very happy.

The next but chunk of place holders that's needs replacing is the backgrounds if anyone would like to have a go at changing those to be 20% different just send me a text document and we will update the code.

Thanks everyone. I was able to copy the class, but it would not show up in the encounter builder only as a race when creating a character.

So I've created several characters successfully in the community pack, and results have been dead on - yay! - but I just ran into trouble with my mid-level bard; Can't seem to find where the 'Expertise' (for skills) selections are made. It detects that I haven't made expertise selections (I get the validation splat with the message: "Expertise: You must choose an option.") - but I've been going through all the options for quite a while and just cannot find where to make the selection...

I see at the bottom left of the Background tab:
'Background & Faction Features'

Yet, where to select a Faction has eluded me.

I looked through the SRD, and didn't find any mention of Factions, so maybe that's why?

The reason I'm asking is because of the Hero Lab to Fantasy Grounds converter I'm working on.

So I got D&D 5e for Herolab as soon as it came out because I love HeroLab and have been just starting a 5e game. The SRD release was disappointing as they didn't have any of the info for the character I was playing.

I was excited about this community pack, as I thought it would fix that, but am hoping that I just messed something up in the installation as it still seems to be missing the things I was needing. Namely, all the archetype options for classes seem to still be limited to just one option, such as the Divine Domains for Clerics, the different Circles for Druids, the different Bardic Colleges for Bards, etc. Still only one option available for all of those. Did I do something wrong? Or are those still not available yet in this pack?

And a tip. If you enable developer mode you can right click on things to see the name. If the name contains '5C' its community content. Alternatively its LW content. This lets you know who to log the ticket to using the links above.

A fairly significant update is now available. A huge chunk of the place holders have now being replaced with paraphrased text. A huge thanks to all involved. This was not a quick task. You should note that background text in your pre existing characters will not update automatically. You can remove and re-add the background to load the text into your character.

I have added "http://www.shadowsoftware.net/herolab/5e/updates.xml" to my update list but after reboots can not access the community files for download. they do not appear on the update list. I receive the d20pfsrd updates without problems.

Edit: Apparently im blind. Nevermind.

So I added the url for the community pack, I installed it and the only thing showing up is an Update titled "5e Community Pack." I installed that and no new content is showing up. No packs have populated my available updates or anything. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, can anyone help?

Okay so I am having the same problem as Panda. I have followed the instructions to the letter(I think) and the pack is not showing up anywhere. It is not showing up in the configure hero section nor in the updates section. I re-installed and still no luck. Please help!!!

Please list the "exact" steps you have done. Provide screen shots if you can. Need more information.

I just verified using my browser that the URL is working and checked on my iPad. No issues.

My only guess would be you have an extra "space" or something in the URL. I would delete it and reenter it make sure no space is at the end or beginning of the URL.

I essentially have the majority of the class figured out. My big four problems are with the Crimson Rite (and by extension Sanguine Mastery), Blood Maledict, the Formulas for the Order of the Mutant, and the patronage and spells for the Order of the Profane Soul.

With Crimson Rite, I'd like to know if it is possible to cause the damage to show up along with the weapons, as well as to take off the HP while activated (until Sanguine Mastery negates the loss of HP). Also, I'd like to know if it's possible to remove available rites once selected.

With Blood Maledict, I need to figure out how to choose two curses when first gained, remove selected curses from further options, and if it is possible to show those effects at all. I have a similar problem with the Formulas.

With the Order of the Profane Soul, I can't really figure out how to be able to select a patron, or restrict the choices of spells a hero learns.

First off: Thanks everyone for their hard work.

This may have already been discussed in the release, but ive noticed that Paladin spells appear to be missing all the paladin spells in the PHB. Is this coming?

Also, there seems to be a bug about racial cantrips. Cantrips are cast at the level of the character, not a caster, and racial cantrips are also cast at the level of the character, not a caster. This might be a general bug and not related to the community pack.

If your missing all the Paladin spells you're doing something wrong. PHB Spells are 100% complete.

If you find any bugs please report them via our GitHub repository with the steps taken to replicate the bug so we can investigate.

I dont think im doing something wrong. Ill look to see what im missing, but I remember a PC who is playing a paladin saying some things were missing, and i believe i have them all.

As for the bug, ill post one in a bit. glad to know its in github.

I just installed everything yesterday and built my 6th level paladin, everything for him appeared fine. Well, I haven't figured out how to get his steed to appear correctly, but I'm not overly concerned with that at the moment, but all the spells were there.

Having not played D&D in several years (and used HL extensively for Pathfinder), I decided to get the 5e pack and the community one. Lots of effort and work, but man... so many typos and errors in the text. One example is Moon elf saying it's an Eladrin subrace....Wha?

A hard drive failure caused me to lose all of my old data files, so I'm trying to relearn how to update and make my own adjustments....

True dat. It's easy to make fixes and submit them. I noted errors in one of the last packs and the team putting the community pack together guided me through how to be a part of the solution. I added my edits and they are part of the community pack now.

Good day gents. I just downloaded the 5e Community Pack today, and I can't seem to get it to work. I see that it's there, and I see the files, but I have no options to configure for it.

I also got the following error messages when loading:

The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors.

The following errors occurred:

File: 5eExtras.user (line 34) - Thing - Invalid unique id 'rBRI?' for attribute 'id'
File: 5eExtras.user (line 53) - Thing - Invalid unique id 'rBRI?' for attribute 'id'

Do you have any custom material you've created?

I had several errors pop up. They were between the new Unearthed Arcana feats added in 1.5 and my files for the same thing. Then I remembered that I had uploaded them to the GIT site for inclusion in 1.5. :)

I just did a quick check of the .user files and can't find any file called 5eExtras.user. Is this a personal .user file?

File: 5eExtras.user (line 53) - Thing - Invalid unique id 'rBRI?' for attribute 'id'
This issue is coming from your own personal files as the community Pack has no file called 5eExtras.user. What you did was appear to do a "New Copy" of something to look at and the editor adds in the "?" at the end. Making it an invalid Unique ID. If you saved the file and then restarted HL "then" the issue will show up.

Start the editor and open file "5eExtras.user". I would assume the above is a "Race" so look at the race tab. And either "fix" the Unique ID to not have a "?" or delete the whole Thing if you don't need it.

Restart HL and you should be good...

Goblin pantheon issue. As i was working on my own user file i noticed that the goblin pantheon was for some reason getting mixed with custom pantheon. looking through Com_5ePack_PHB - Deities.user none of the Goblin Deities were assigned Deity Catagory Order Group. For those people who notice and want to correct the problem in their own installations the order group for Goblin Deities is 17

I'm trying to create a warlock in 5e and it doesn't show the spell Witch Bolt in the spell list for my warlock. I went into create the spell myself and noticed that it is in there, just not showing up for a warlock. I also tried to create a sorcerer and it's not there for that class either and should be.

How can I fix this?

PS I wasn't sure where to post this question.

Are you certain you have the community pack enabled? How many backgrounds do you see?

I still only see Acolyte. How do I enable the community pack? I followed the install instructions, but apparently I missed something.

I'm trying to create an entry for the Staff of Defense from Lost Mine of Phandelver. How can I get the item to:
A) show up as a wieldable weapon?
B) confer a +1 to the wielder's armor class?

The spell Beast Bond (sp5CEPCBea) should be available for Druid and Ranger classes. Currently the file only supports Druid.

I don't know where to report any errors so I'm posting here. I am starting a level 3 character with 2 levels in Druid and 1 in Monk. I'm playing a Human variant.

The error is that on my In-Play tab, it shows that I can cast Alter Self at-will. However, I shouldn't get this until 14th level Druid, correct?

I've got a bunch of the En5ider articles prepped at Alpha for most and a few at a Beta as I've done a bit of coding, between Article 7 and Article 80 I think. Not all of them but probably two dozen more. Computers at my house and Windows 10 have not gotten along, so I've lost my github setup and connection. I'll try to get them uploaded manually soon. Also made significant progress through cleaning up the Book of Lost Spells. Between computer rebuilds and general lack of time, and a possible major job change, time to work on files is probably going to be non-existent starting the first of next month.

Yeah, but how do I access them in the Editor? I'm trying to create a half-elf variant from SCAG as it's not an available option in the community pack but damned if I can figure it out.

I've found the moon elf in the SCAG files so I've been able to figure out how to add the cantrip ability, but only as a new race rather than sub-race option to the half elf.

Man this stuff is confusing :(

When I click on "Open Data File" it takes me to the 5e data folder. The only options to load are the COM ones and none of them have the High Elf in it. The only option is the Moon or Sun Elf variants in the SCAG .user data file.

I'm just trying to create the half-elf variants from SCAG but can't figure out how to do it without copying from already built sources, hence why I looked for the high elf. I found what I needed in the Moon elf variant to build the Cantrip ability, but can't now get it to pop-up as an option for the core Half Elf like it does for the Human variant.

Honestly, I don't care how it's done, I just can't figure out how to build a half-elf variant racial option to choose in the builder. So if there are better ways to go about this, I'm all (elf) ears.

Just click the copy button from the editor. The elf is built into the core pack and can't be opened in the editor.

Still unhelpful since, again, you're not specifying which .user file to open in the editor in the first place since that determines which "races" are available to copy from.

Not only that, but your "solution" is inaccurate. To do what I was asking about actually requires opening the COM races .user file (see, I actually mentioned the FILE that needs to be opened, because if you don't open the right file, then the things you're talking about being so easy to find in order to copy from, AREN'T THERE TO BE COPIED FROM), then creating a copy of the Half-Elf race, making a new identifier for it, deleting Skill Versatility from it, labelling it as something like "Half-Elf Variant", and then creating a SUBRACE that links to that race, for each individual variant, with the easiest way of doing so to copy the subrace entry with the desired trait, creating a new identifier for it, a new name to go in parentheses with it, deleting all the aspects of it that don't apply, then testing to see if it pops up as a subrace option when choosing the Half Elf Variant, and if it does, compiling, then saving the data file.

All of which is a far cry from, "Just copy it, you'll see."

So, I'll provide the hand-holding you're looking for.

WOW! So you don't even try the solution but instead just complain about?

Follow his steps and you maybe will learn something about HL works.

You see New (Copy) does a copy of any Thing that is in the data base regardless of what .user file you loaded. In matter of fact its the ONLY way to get the Things that LW put in 5e.

My advice is stop assuming and listen to the advice you are being given....

This gives you a copy of the High Elf that you can work with. You CANNOT open or work with the orginal High Elf subrace directly. It's basically hard coded.

I presume you have been workign with your own .user file and copies of the files you wanted . . . NOT the originals. If you have been modifying the original files, you will LOSE those changes when/if those files are updated.

Never, ever modify a COM_ file. Make all your changes in a personal .user file.

You create your own .user file.
