Hi,
I have some players that are not really firm in the english language so is there is an easy way to translate the skills,edges,hindrances,... to a different language like German?

I know that it's no problem to change the name (not the Unique ID) in a user datafile by using the HeroLab editor, but how to you change the Names in the SavageWorlds core?

Any ideas?

Thanks and Happy Easter!

edit:
Is the solution to create a new gamesystem and to copy the savage sourcefiles and work on them? if yes that would mean that you have to redo all the changes when there is a change in the source. Would there be a simpler solution? Maybe a datafile to replace the names associated with uniqueId's? (that would skip the need to modify the source again and again.

There are two aspects to accomplishing this objective.

The first is all the names and basic description text. Those pieces of information can be readily replaced using the editor. Through a user data file, you can create a copy of a thing and change the name and description very easily. By using the "Replaces Id" mechanism, you can have your copy replace the built-in version completely. So you can wholly replace an edge with the German equivalent via a user data file.

The second aspect is dealing with text that is generated via scripts and/or defined as a label within the UI. For example, the "Edges" tab and the text therein that says "Edges - 0 of 1 (1 Left)" or "Add New Edge" is hard-wired in English. This aspect of the product cannot be translated via user-created data files.

So if you want to create a German version of the Savage Worlds files, you can do so, but they will only be 97% German. The overall framework of the UI itself, and the labels used therein, will still be in English. However, all the main content will be in German. If your players have a rudimentary understanding of English, then they will hopefully be able to handle the UI framework being in English. All of the names and lengthy descriptions of the content will then be in the more familiar German.

Hope this helps....
