Item cost

I am unsure of how to give the PC's items for free. It looks like the price is set and that is all. I have used this product for Pathfinder and had been able to change price as I see fit. Can someone tell me how to change prices?

Once you've locked a character for play, there is an "Obtain for free" checkbox in the Add New Gear menu.

So what if I want to give a free item at character creation?

Can you not finish character creation, lock the character, and then add the free item?

Finish everything else, go to advancement mode, and then add it.
