Hi. As WotC announced that their character builder is going to be online only, I am interested in switching to Hero Lab. Will it be able to receive data updates after DDI builder goes online only, and does it support post-Essentials D&D characters?

The 4e downloader will continue to download everything you have access to in the D&D Compendium. Right now, that includes "Heroes of the Fallen Lands" and "Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms" from the Essentials line, I believe. You can check the Compendium itself for more up to date info:

(Currently the new classes from Essentials aren't being imported by the downloader, but I'm planning to fix that in the next update.)
As long as the D&D compendium remains available, there shouldn't be any change to what the downloader has access to.
Hope this helps!

Thanks! I will most probably begin using your software now.
